I’m Cynthia: Passionate, eccentric and dedicated.
Pleasantly surprised when I started work with C&B, I was duly informed that I’d be writing blog posts. What could inspire fear in some, is music to my ears, as it is the perfect way to express the real me.
I won’t be suffering from a shortage of topics to address, because I have a lot of thoughts on a lot of things. But on the path to figuring out why people would want to read what I have to say, I figure if they can relate, well, that’s a start.
So this is me: why I’m here, where I’m from and where I’m going.
A change in heart – a change in career
Born and raised in Lebanon, I majored in Law and Political Science before I discovered a true passion for Communications. That led me to Journalism, Brand Strategy and Corporate Events.
With this change of heart, came a change of city. I’ve had many opportunities to come to Dubai before, but never took them because of the mistaken belief that the ‘happening city’ lacked the culture, roots and heritage that I feed off of. The moral of that story is to ‘never judge by a cover’ and I find the intricate mix of nationals, ideas and old vs. new, absolutely fascinating.
By taking the leap, now I have the opportunity to add PR to my pre-established perspective on Communications. Not a bad addition to the portfolio of resume skills, if you ask me.
New Kid on the C&B Block
As one of the toddlers on board, some days can feel like learning how to walk.
On top of that, I’m setting up shop away from home and family, and that leaves me with a yearning for my ‘roots’ while with an intense desire to be strongly independent.
The shift in career, has meant blurred lines between branding strategy and PR strategy, and to be completely honest, PR is certainly not the easiest industry to ‘digest’ fast when you’re the new ‘English man in New York’.
It takes time to embrace the new and find where you fit in it. Processing the seemingly ‘unprocessable’ at first, which means everything from personal – grasping living and recreation in Dubai, to business – getting on top of a new industry, this is a journey that takes patience and passion.
A bit of me in the way I work
I’m a creature of the night, a closet music junky that is passionate about making undisclosed discoveries. My long-nurtured frenetic obsession with experimental music and the arts will never cease to exist and is something I hope to promote with my newfound PR skills. As I apply them to my interests, I’ll better be able to apply them at work, because it will mean something to me.
I consider myself lucky to be working at C&B, because with my work now, and my wonderfully supportive colleagues, I can actually combine both of my interests and am given freedom to see where that can develop.
It can only go up from here.
Happy to see me?
