The PR world is changing really fast, and in order to stay ahead of the game you need to be on top of your game.
Changes come with the advent of innovations to the industry – and if they get the job done better, they are sure to become integrated in the whole process of what we do. But before you go running to keep up with PR, how do you make yourself a better PR professional?
Work as a team
You may be good on your own, but together with your colleagues you can be great. Feed off of each other’s strengths to combat any weaknesses and make sure you have a winning team.
Read the daily paper
In our industry there’s no excuse for not being on top of the news. We need to know what’s happening when it’s relevant.
Become an expert in your client’s field
You need to know everything about your client, their competitors and about their industry. This is the best way to capitalise on new opportunity and to make sure you stay abreast of developments that can be used to their advantage.
Develop your writing skills
We can’t stress this enough. Take the extra time to write full briefs and the first draft of your clients’ press releases and editorials. Not only do you get to know your client better, you become a better PR professional yourself.
There are so many more things that could be added to this list. PR is about growth and development in an industry that is constantly changing – while holding on to traditional values that help us connect to the audience.
